Process and Automation Technology

Butterfly Valves with Pneumatic Actuator

Shut off, dose, automate – with compressed air instead of manual force. Our pneumatically actuated butterfly valves combine the compact wafer and lug body design with robust pneumatic rotary actuators, reliably controlling your pipeline within the process sequence. Choose from several product series – single-acting or double-acting, in cast iron, stainless steel, and other versions – in a nominal diameter range of approximately DN 40 to DN 450.

Your Benefits

Why choose pneumatic butterfly valves from STASTO

Ready-to-install valves, clearly structured series, and technical advice in one place – tailored to purchasing, project planning, and maintenance.

01

Actuator already mounted

The valve and pneumatic rotary actuator form a matched unit – you receive a ready-to-install valve instead of individual components that you would have to combine yourself.

02

Single- or double-acting

Double-acting actuators (designation -D) for defined open/close movement using compressed air in both directions; single-acting actuators (-S) with spring return for a safe fail-position in case of compressed air failure.

03

Broad product range

Several series such as BUW2, BUW6, BUW9 as well as BULG/BULC cover different materials and application profiles – from standard processes to more demanding media.

04

B2B procurement without detours

As a specialized distributor for process and automation technology, we combine selection, availability information, and technical advice in one place.

Availability & Consultation

Delivery and Sizing

Actual availability, lead time and pricing depend on the selected series, nominal diameter and design. Many variants are available on short notice; we're happy to discuss special designs and larger nominal diameters individually.

Delivery and Sizing

Availability Depends on Variant

Current information on lead time and stock can be found on the respective product page or on request.

Nominal Diameters DN 40 to DN 450

Covered across the entire range – the specific available sizes depend on the variant.

Technical Consultation

We provide support in sizing actuator size, material and connection interface.

Guide

Choosing the right pneumatic butterfly valve

Four criteria help you select the right series – from actuator behavior to control integration.

Actuator and nominal diameter

Double-acting (-D)
Compressed air opens and closes the valve – suitable for standard process control.
Single-acting (-S)
Spring return automatically drives the valve to a safe position in the event of air supply failure (fail-safe).
Nominal diameter
Determined by your pipeline, e.g. DN 50, DN 80, DN 100, DN 150.
Design
The compact wafer/lug design saves installation space in the pipeline.

Material, connection and control

Body & disc
From cast iron to stainless steel versions – matched to media, temperature and pressure (see datasheet).
Seal
Select seat and seal material according to the media; details vary by version.
Actuator interface
Make sure the actuator interface is compatible for future mounting (e.g. per ISO 5211).
Control & Accessories
Depending on the series, position indicators or solenoid valves can be added.

Applications

Where Pneumatic Butterfly Valves Work

Used wherever pipelines in automated process sequences need to be switched quickly and with repeatable accuracy.

Process and Process Engineering

On/off control of liquids and gases in automated systems.

Aggressive Media

For demanding media, matching the material and seal is recommended – please contact us for guidance.

Compressed Air and Gas Distribution

Fast, remote-controlled switching of pipeline sections.

Hygienically Sensitive Areas

For hygienically sensitive media, the appropriate combination of material and seal can be selected.

Supply Systems

Reliable opening and closing in cooling and heating circuits.

Industrial Plants

Shutting off larger nominal sizes with minimal installation space requirements, for example in water and wastewater treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs on pneumatic butterfly valves

Answers on design, actuator variants, and selection.

What is a pneumatic butterfly valve?

A butterfly valve whose disc is opened and closed via a pneumatic rotary actuator. Instead of manual operation, compressed air handles the switching – ideal for automating pipelines.

What is the difference between single-acting and double-acting actuators?

Double-acting actuators (-D) move the valve disc with compressed air in both directions. Single-acting actuators (-S) use spring force to automatically move to a safe position if the air supply fails.

What nominal sizes are available?

Across the full range, nominal sizes from around DN 40 to DN 450 are covered. The specific sizes available depend on the particular series and variant.

Which series does STASTO offer?

Among others, the BUW2, BUW6, BUW9, and BULG/BULC series – in various material and actuator configurations. Details can be found within each series.

How does the pneumatic version differ from the electric version?

Pneumatic valves are actuated by compressed air, while electric valves are actuated via an electric actuator. Electrically actuated butterfly valves are listed in a separate category – we're happy to advise you on which actuator type suits your application.

What pressure and temperature ranges are permissible?

This depends on the series, material, and seal. Please check the permissible values in the relevant product datasheet or contact us for details.
