Pneumatic Sliding Gate Valves - Control Valves with Piston and Diaphragm Actuator
Pneumatic sliding gate valves regulate and switch wherever short stroke times, compact installation dimensions and low weight are required. The sliding gate principle works with two sealing discs moving transversely to the flow, resulting in a very short stroke, low actuating forces and correspondingly compact actuators. STASTO supplies the pneumatically actuated control valves of the GS1 series in two actuator variants: SG05/SG06 series with piston actuator and SG07 series with diaphragm actuator, both electro-pneumatically actuated and fitted with an integrated digital i/p positioner.
GS1 Series at a Glance
Why sliding gate valves
Four Reasons for Pneumatic Sliding Gate Control Valves
The short stroke of the sliding gate shapes switching behavior, design, and actuator size. This makes the GS1 series an alternative to stroke-based seat valves of comparable nominal size.
Small stroke, fast response times
The sliding gate requires only a very short stroke. This results in fast response and switching times as well as high switching capacity - a key advantage over stroke-based seat valves of comparable nominal size.
High kvs values at low weight
The GS1 series achieves high kvs values at extremely low weight and short installation length in wafer-type design. The specific kvs value results from nominal size and version and is listed per variant in the datasheet.
Two pneumatic actuator concepts
SG05/SG06 uses the low actuating forces of the sliding gate for a compact piston actuator. SG07 handles high differential pressures with a small actuator via the diaphragm actuator. Both series are electro-pneumatically actuated and equipped with an integrated digital i/p positioner.
For neutral to highly aggressive media
Designed for switching and controlling neutral to highly aggressive media in chemical, process engineering and plant construction applications. Which material and seat disc pairing is approved for your medium is clarified based on your operating data sheet.

Applications
Where pneumatic sliding gate control valves are used
The GS1 series is designed for switching and controlling neutral to highly aggressive media - from plant construction to demanding control applications.
Chemical Industry
For switching and controlling neutral to highly aggressive media. For aggressive media, stainless steel versions are available (1.4408 for SG05/SG06, 1.4581 for SG07); a metal bellows is optionally available if the stem sealing needs additional protection.
Process Engineering
Control and positioning tasks in process engineering applications. The integrated digital i/p positioner and the selectable linear or equal-percentage characteristic curve allow precise integration into process control systems.
Plant and Pipeline Construction
The wafer-type design with short face-to-face length and low weight simplifies planning and installation - especially for retrofits and where installation space is limited.
Control Air and Actuator Technology
The short stroke reduces control air consumption and allows for compact actuators. If control air is not available, the motor-actuated SG08 series is the alternative.
Industrial Manufacturing
In manufacturing and supply plants, short response times and high switching capacity are essential. Whether a specific industry application - such as in the tire industry - is covered can be clarified on a case-by-case basis using your operating data.
High and Low Media Temperatures
The media temperature range of the SG05/SG06 and SG07 series extends from -60 degrees C to +350 degrees C. The applicable limits for your specific version depend on the material and seal disc pairing and can be found in the datasheet.
How to find the right variant
From operating data to type key
The SG series are specified and requested via the type key. Three steps lead to the right configuration.
Compile operating data
Medium, medium temperature, differential pressure, nominal size, nominal pressure and required control function - these specifications determine material, seat disc pairing and characteristic curve.
Selecting the actuator variant
Piston actuator (SG05/SG06) for compact, fast positioning tasks, diaphragm actuator (SG07) for high differential pressures with a small actuator. Without control air, SG08 remains available as a motorized alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ on pneumatic sliding gate valves
Answers on actuator types, temperature limits, characteristic curves and selection.
What is a pneumatic sliding gate valve?
A pneumatic sliding gate valve is a power-actuated control valve in which two sealing discs move transversely to the flow to open or close the passage. The very short stroke requires only low actuating forces, which is why compact pneumatic actuators are sufficient. At STASTO these are the SG05/SG06 series with piston actuator and the SG07 with diaphragm actuator from the GS1 range.
What is the difference between the piston actuator (SG05/SG06) and the diaphragm actuator (SG07)?
SG05/SG06 uses a compact piston actuator and is suited to fast, space-saving control tasks; SG07, with its diaphragm actuator, handles high differential pressures using a small actuator. Both series are electro-pneumatically actuated and feature an integrated digital i/p positioner; they also differ in the standard stainless steel grade (1.4408 for SG05/SG06, 1.4581 for SG07).
What medium temperature range do the SG05/SG06 and SG07 series cover?
The medium temperature range of the SG05/SG06 and SG07 series extends from -60 degrees C to +350 degrees C. This covers both low-temperature and high-temperature applications; the binding limits for your specific version depend on the material and sealing disc pairing and can be found in the datasheet.
Which nominal sizes and pressure ratings are available?
The SG05/SG06 and SG07 pneumatic sliding gate control valves are available from DN15 to DN150 and in PN16/40. All series are supplied in wafer design; installation lengths and kvs values depend on the variant.
Linear or equal percentage - which characteristic curve is correct?
Both series are available with either a linear or an equal-percentage characteristic curve. Linear is suitable when the pressure drop across the valve remains largely constant; equal-percentage is the better choice for wide load ranges and varying differential pressures.
Is a sliding gate control valve also suitable for pure shut-off duty?
The sliding gate shut-off valves of the SG03/SG04 series are intended purely for switching and shut-off duties, not the control valves SG05/SG06 and SG07. They are likewise pneumatically actuated and, thanks to their short stroke, achieve fast switching times and high switching capacity.
What if no control air is available?
In that case, the motor-driven sliding gate control valve of the SG08 series is the alternative: electrically actuated with 3-point control in DN15...DN125, optionally with spring-return actuator. For pressure control without auxiliary power, the self-actuated sliding gate pressure regulator SG17 is available.
