Compressed Air Maintenance

Filter Regulators for Compressed Air – Filter & Regulator Combined

A filter regulator combines two functions in one unit: it cleans compressed air of condensate and particles while maintaining a constant set working pressure. Instead of installing a filter and regulator separately, you save space, fittings, and installation time. At STASTO, you will find filter regulators from the FR01/FR and Gold FR04 series for common port sizes from G1/4 to G1 – designed for continuous operation in industrial compressed air maintenance.

Advantages

Why a Filter Regulator from STASTO

Filter regulators reduce components and leak points, maintain constant secondary pressure and reliably drain condensate – in robust designs for continuous industrial operation.

01

Two Functions, One Device

Filtration and regulation in one housing: fewer components, fewer leak points, more compact service unit.

02

Defined Filter Fineness per Series

Filter element 20 µm for the FR01/FR series, 5 µm for the Gold Series FR04-M – matched to the required air quality of your application.

03

Constant Secondary Pressure

Adjustable pressure range 0.5…8 bar (FR01/FR) or 0.5…10 bar (FR04-M), with secondary exhaust for precise reduction of outlet pressure.

04

Semi-Automatic Drain Valve

Accumulated condensate is reliably drained without requiring manual intervention.

Application areas

Where filter regulators work

From the machine inlet through the distribution level to the complete FRL unit – filter regulators condition compressed air exactly where it is needed.

Machine inlet / service unit

Machine inlet / service unit

The filter regulator conditions compressed air directly at the machine inlet and sets the required working pressure.

Buyer's Guide

How to select the right filter regulator

Filtration grade, port size and pressure range determine which series suits your compressed air application. This guide helps with configuration.

Design & Function

Filter regulator or separate components
A filter regulator combines both functions in a single housing, saving fittings, potential leak points and installation space. Separate components are worthwhile when the filter and regulator need to be located at different points or when high contamination loads are present.
Secondary exhaust
Allows precise reduction of outlet pressure without venting the system.
Semi-automatic drain valve
Drains condensate automatically without manual intervention.
Bowl type
Plastic bowl with protective guard (FR01/FR) or metal bowl (Gold FR04-M), depending on mechanical stress requirements.

Sizing

Filtration grade
For general compressed air, the 20 µm grade (FR01/FR) is standard; for cleaner air, the 5 µm grade (FR04-M). For even finer requirements, there are micro-filter series MF and activated carbon filter series FI01-AC.
Port size
G1/4, G3/8, G1/2 or G1 – matched to pipe cross-section and required flow rate. An undersized port creates pressure drop.
Pressure range
0.5…8 bar (FR01/FR) or 0.5…10 bar (FR04-M). The working pressure must fall within this range; the upstream pressure must not exceed the maximum value.
Flow rate
Use the flow rate value in Nl/min of the respective variant to avoid pressure drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Filter regulators – frequently asked questions

Answers on function, selection and integration into compressed air maintenance.

What is a filter regulator?

A filter regulator is a compressed air component that combines a filter and a pressure regulator in a single housing. It removes condensate and particles from the compressed air while maintaining the set outlet pressure at a constant level.

What is the difference between a filter regulator and a pressure regulator?

A standalone pressure regulator controls pressure only; a filter regulator also handles air filtration. Where the air is already filtered, a pressure regulator (e.g. Series RE01/R) is sufficient; where conditioning and regulation are both required, the filter regulator is the space-saving solution.

What filter grades do STASTO filter regulators offer?

The FR01/FR series works with a 20 µm filter element, the Gold Series FR04-M with 5 µm. Further grades for each variant can be found on the respective product page.

What port sizes are available?

Filter regulators are available in common port sizes from G1/4 to G1. Exact availability depends on series and variant and is shown on the respective product page.

Is the filter regulator part of a service unit?

Yes. Combined with a lubricator, it forms an FRL service unit. STASTO offers complete units in the MU201/FRL and MU301/FRL3 series as well as the Gold variants MU204/MU304.

What pressure range do the series cover?

The adjustable pressure range is 0.5…8 bar (FR01/FR) and 0.5…10 bar (FR04-M). The required working pressure must be within this range; the inlet pressure must not exceed the respective maximum value (16 or 25 bar).
